Governor Mike Parson’s agenda is failing working families.
Kansas City, Mo. (January 15, 2020) – Governor Mike Parson touted his accomplishments in his first full year as Governor this afternoon in a daytime speech delivered in front of several hundred politicians and insiders. His agenda is not an agenda for average Missouri families, who continue to struggle on his watch.
- Tens of thousands of Missouri kids have been kicked off their health insurance because of the administration’s bureaucratic barriers and the Governor refuses to act.
- Gun homicides and suicides continue to ravage Missouri communities. While the Governor has suggested interest in a gun crime proposal suggested by the mayors of Missouri’s four largest cities, recent reporting suggests that he hasn’t yet drafted a proposal or spoken to legislative leaders about it. A top Republican in the House suggested the Governor’s idea would go nowhere on his watch. Parson suggested on conservative talk radio last week that he won’t be putting forward common sense gun safety measures this election year.
- Parson touted his economic record, but a recent report from the University of Missouri showed that our state’s economic growth has not kept pace with our regional neighbors. Economic growth in rural Missouri is especially lagging.
Following the speech, Missouri Democratic Party Executive Director Lauren Gepford released the following statement: “Simply put, Governor Parson is not leading on the issues that matter most to average working families. It’s more clear than ever that Missouri needs a change from the same old way of doing business, where insiders and the well connected get what they want while working families struggle with rising costs, stagnant wages, and unsafe streets. This Governor was never elected to serve in this role, and Missouri Democrats are going to work tirelessly to ensure he never is. ”
