NOW & THEN: Missouri’s GOP Once Had Tough Standards on Responding & Talking about Terror Attacks, Now They’re Ignoring Trump’s Lies
Alex Schupp
As an Associated Press analysis has made clear that “President Donald Trump can’t be counted on to give accurate information to Americans when violent acts are unfolding abroad,” following his blatantly dishonest response to the recent terror attacks that included criticizing the Mayor of London’s statement as “pathetic,” the Missouri Democratic Party is highlighting what Missouri’s now-silent Republican officeholders previously said about how American leaders should act and talk in response to terror attacks.
“President Trump’s delusional and blatantly dishonest response to serious terror attacks abroad is a danger that Missouri’s Republican officeholders need to denounce if they’re even close to being as serious about national security as they like to say they are.”
MDP CHAIR STEPHEN WEBBER
From the importance of being informed to standing strong with allies of the United States, here’s what Missouri’s now-silent Republican officeholders previously said about how American leaders should act and talk in response to terror attacks:
- Senator Roy Blunt highlighted the importance of a clear and informed response to terror attacks: “The more you analyze one effort, successful or not, the better chance you have to prevent the next thing from happening.”
- Governor Eric Greitens said: “We must defeat terrorism with clarity.”
- Congresswoman Ann Wagner criticized President Obama for not attending an event in France after a terrorist attack in Paris: “I’m extremely disappointed that President Obama was absent from the unity rally attended by dozens of world leaders in Paris today.”
- Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler criticized President Obama for how he used his empty seat at a State of the Union address: “This is very, very concerning, and so that would symbolize how important it is that we get our foreign policy right…We have allies who don’t trust us.”
- Congressman Jason Smith stated: “Terrorist groups like ISIS thrive when America appears aloof from global affairs.”
- Congressman Blaine Luetkemeyer criticized President Obama for not talking about terrorism earlier enough in a speech: “The end of the speech is near and I haven’t heard POTUS’s plan to defeat ISIS. Not really surprised but disappointed.”
