Missouri Democratic Party statement on the 10th Anniversary of Citizens United
Kansas City, MO (January 21, 2020) – In the decade since the Citizens United decision, there has been a wave of dark money ushered into politics, allowing corporations to buy influence on politicians. This influx of dark money has brought nothing but good things to Congresswoman Ann Wagner, including over $5.3 million in donations from special interest groups. Missouri Democratic Party Executive Director Lauren Gepford commented:
“Ann Wagner has shown that she has the interests of the wealthy in mind, not her constituents. She has voted against lowering prescription drug costs, protecting the Affordable Care Act, implementing background checks on gun sales, and countless other issues that have popular support on both sides of the aisle. It’s clear that she’s not in Congress to give a voice to her constituency, and she leaves the people of the second district without a true representative.”
