Missouri Democratic Party Celebrates Opening of 2024 Candidate Filing Period

February 28, 2024

Following the opening of the candidate filing period for Missouri’s August 6, 2024, statewide Primary Election, Missouri Democratic Party Chair Russ Carnahan released the following statement:

“We were proud to see so many Democrats from across the state show up yesterday and file to run for office, including several Camp Carnahan graduates or candidates staffed by Camp Carnahan graduates. Stepping up to run to serve your community as an elected official is a noble and worthy cause, and making sure potential candidates in every corner of the state have what they need to run is critical in ensuring diverse candidate slates. The Missouri Democratic Party is committed to rebuilding our statewide infrastructure to empower Democrats who want to step up and run for office. We are excited and getting organized as we head into the 2024 election cycle,” Carnahan said.

Background:

Over the past weekend, the Missouri Democratic Party hosted over 80 participants in Jefferson City at a revival of the successful Camp Carnahan training course offered to Democrats interested in running for office, working on campaigns, or community organizing across the state. Respected campaigners from across the state and country came in to train participants and participants were welcomed by a video from DNC Chair Jaime Harrison. The original Camp Carnahan was a highly successful training program that was started in 1997 by Governor Mel Carnahan, as a series of eight regional camps, which trained over 800 participants in the fundamentals of winning elections.

Missouri’s candidate filing period to run in the statewide August 6th Primary Election opened on Tuesday, February 27th, and closes on March 26th.
