Missouri Democratic Party Bids Farewell to Chairman Butler
Ahead of Chair and Vice Chair Special Election
Kansas City, Mo - The Missouri Democratic Party will hold its first State Committee Meeting, following the resignation of Michael Butler, former chairman of the Missouri Democratic Party. Butler announced his resignation by email to Committee members citing personal business reasons. In his letter, Butler offered his support for the Party for continued success, and assured the transition to the next Chairman will be “effortless.”
With the resignation of Butler, State Committee members will vote on a new chair and vice chair. According to the MDP Bylaws, the vice chair position becomes vacant upon the chairman's resignation. MDP Secretary Jonathan Kessler will preside over the Democratic State Committee until a new chair is elected on March 18. “I would like to thank Michael Butler for his leadership over the past two years,” said Kessler. “Butler led our Party through a hard-fought redistricting mapping which helped lead to the net gain of three critically important Missouri House seat pickups in the 2022 election cycle.”
Despite this resignation, the Missouri Democratic Party is united towards a common goal that when we work together, we can deliver for hardworking Missourians. From now through 2024, it is up to all of us to build on our momentum.
The State Committee Meeting and the special election will be held on Saturday, March 18, beginning at 12:00 p.m., at the DMC Building, 404 Tiger Lane, Columbia, Mo 65203.
