October 21, 2020 (Kansas City) – With just 13 days until Election Day, the Missouri Democratic Party announced a huge haul of $1,534,198.41 raised during the third quarter between July 1 and September 30. The fundraising was fueled by more than 2,630 donors last quarter and 5,700+ donors this election cycle. Similar to how Democrats have seen a surge of grassroots support in 2020 for Nicole Galloway’s campaign for Missouri Governor and in competitive campaigns across the country, the Missouri Democratic Party has also doubled it’s grassroots donor program in 2020 compared to any past election cycle.
The Missouri Democratic Party raised 3 times as much as the Missouri Republican Party in the third quarter, and has raised 2.5 times as much as the MO GOP for the election cycle. This success is attributed to having 13,000+ individual donations compared to the MO GOP’s publicly reported 1,300. The Missouri Democratic Party heads into the final crunch with 2.5 times as much cash on hand as the GOP.
“13 days out from Election Day, the Missouri Democratic Party and our Show Me Change Coordinated Campaign are supporting Democrats up and down the ballot, and have the momentum and grassroots support to get Auditor Galloway over the finish line, flip the 2nd Congressional District, and flip swing State Senate and House districts,” said Lauren Gepford, Missouri Democratic Party Executive Director. “This surge of grassroots support complements the extraordinary leadership, energy, and fundraising success from our Democratic candidates who are behind our Party that is fired up, united, and banded together for a historically strong finish. Our key races are all polling in a dead heat – Governor, MO-2, and key flippable State Senate and State House races.”
Key numbers from the Party’s fundraising include:
- 94% of individual donors (5,771) made a grassroots contribution of $250 or under with an average contribution of $110.
- $3,219,764.29 raised thus far this cycle. 75% of individual donations have been raised online; almost two times as many grassroots supporters as the Missouri Democratic Party has seen in past election cycles.
- Missouri’s top tier Gubernatorial race, considered one of, if not the most, competitive in the nation, along with a top-tier Congressional race have brought in significant support to Missouri Democrats despite not having a U.S. Senate race or being a battleground Presidential state.
- Missouri Democrats are competing in the first elections without a statewide federal candidate on the ballot since state campaign finance rules went into effect
