Trump Surrogate & Potential Senate Candidate Ed Martin to Josh Hawley: “You Won’t Win If You Play the Danforth-Ryan Game. That’s the Loser”

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Yesterday, conservative radio host Jamie Allman spoke with Trump surrogate and potential Senate candidate Ed Martin about Josh Hawley’s refusal to say where he stands on his number one backer for Senate Jack Danforth’s criticism of President Trump.

“All we’re asking Josh to do is to say get out there, stake your ground. We want to hear what you’re made of,” said Allman, to which Martin replied, “You just put your finger on it. Josh Hawley’s…got to win. You won’t win if you play the Danforth-Ryan game. That’s the loser.”

From The Allman Report:

JAMIE ALLMAN: You brought up Senator Danforth, and listen — the guy’s earned the right to say what he wants to say. I get all that, but you wonder whether or not he actually wants a Republican to take over McCaskill’s seat. Because, that letter he wrote, that hateful, spiteful, petulant letter he wrote, or editorial he wrote, Ed, calling President Trump hateful, calling on Republicans to disassociate themselves from him, from President Trump. That put Josh Hawley, one…

ED MARTIN: In a tough spot, a tough spot.

ALLMAN: He supports Josh Hawley, he’s one of the main signers of that letter, and that puts Josh Hawley in a bad situation here…if you’re running for Senate here you better make a choice as to where you’re gonna go here.

MARTIN: …Josh Hawley’s got to do the math, it’s not the turnout of a presidential and if you want to be on the side of the populist people that are fed up with the swamp, Danforth, Ryan, the other guys they look like swamp creatures from where I’m sitting.

ALLMAN: I mean [President Trump won by] 19 percent, I mean that’s pretty formidable.

MARTIN: It’s bigly.

ALLMAN: Ed to your point about the Democrats, that’s why they quote us. Whenever they hear us talking about Josh Hawley, they think that’s going to hurt him somehow and all we’re asking Josh to do is to say get out there, stake your ground. We want to hear what you’re made of, but I don’t think Danforth’s going to shoo him into the US Senate.

MARTIN: No, no, look I mean that’s the important thing. You just put your finger on it. Josh Hawley’s a good guy, very smart, top notch, all that, but he’s got to win. You won’t win if you play the Danforth-Ryan game. That’s the loser. That got us President McCain, President Romney, President Huntsman, President Jeb Bush…
