COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri Democratic Party is criticizing the healthcare executive order President Donald Trump signed today because it will increase costs for Missourians and gut protections for individuals with pre-existing health conditions.
Under Donald Trump’s executive order, some health insurance plans “will be able to avoid many ACA rules, including the law’s benefits requirements, limits on consumers’ yearly and lifetime costs, and ban on charging more to customers who have been sick,” according to the Washington Post.
A report from CNBC pointed out that, “The order comes after months of failed efforts by Trump and Republican leaders to get Congress to pass legislation that would repeal and replace Obamacare.”
“After Americans rejected his failed and unpopular healthcare overhaul, Donald Trump is desperately signing an executive order that will increase costs and put at risk protections for Missourians who’ve been to the hospital before and have a pre-existing health condition. By continuing to attack healthcare for sick and working Missourians, Donald Trump isn’t just being a sore loser – he’s risking lives.”
