ICYMI: With Dark Money and Billionaires Footing the Bill, Hawley Abandons Ethics Reform Entirely

Josh Hawley has officially abandoned his AG campaign promise to clean up corruption in Jefferson City. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that "before he became Missouri’s attorney general, Josh Hawley called for a long-elusive overhaul of state ethics laws," including a ban on lobbyist gifts. However, now that Hawley is running a Senate campaign propped up by dark money and billionaire backers, "his campaign office says he is not supporting a Nov. 6 ballot initiative that would address the same issues he raised more than four years ago." Yet again, Hawley is putting what's best for his political allies over what's best for Missouri.

TWO YEARS AGO: Hawley: “One of the things that irks me is folks who, they’re not really interested in the job they’re running for”

When Josh Hawley ran for Attorney General, he campaigned on a signature pledge not to be another ladder climbing politician. In fact, two years ago, Hawley told St. Louis Public Radio that, "One of the things that irks me is folks who, they're not really interested in the job they're running for, they're interested in 2 or 3 things down the line. And then they get elected and they spend all of their time trying to get elected to something else and doing something else.”
